Our task was to build a world for ZuZu Mart. We needed to design central "hero" characters that could lead the brand, create a supporting cast of product-based mascots (food items), and illustrate various scenarios to show how this universe comes to life in a real-world context.

Shopping felt forgettable, and the brand did too
ZuZu Mart wanted to be more than another grocery store. The challenge wasn't selling products - it was creating a brand people would remember, enjoy, and recognize wherever they saw it.
- No memorable identity: The brand needed a personality that people could instantly recognize.
- Limited emotional connection: Nothing made shopping feel more fun or engaging for families and younger customers.
- No consistent character system: There wasn't a visual language that could tie campaigns, packaging, and marketing together.
- Hard to stand out: In a crowded retail market, the brand needed something unique that people would remember.

Giving ZuZu Mart a brand with personality
Instead of relying on generic grocery store visuals, the brand was built around original characters and playful illustrations. The result is a visual identity that's easy to recognize, flexible across different platforms, and memorable long after people leave the store.
- Memorable mascot system: Created a cast of original characters that gave the brand a friendly and recognizable face.
- Consistent visual identity: Built an illustration style that worked across digital, print, packaging, and in-store branding.
- Story-driven marketing: Designed playful scenes that made everyday shopping feel more engaging and fun.
- Scalable brand assets: Developed reusable characters and graphics that support future campaigns without starting from scratch.

Researching what makes a brand memorable
We explored how successful retail brands use mascots, illustrations, and consistent visuals to build stronger connections with customers. The goal was to create a brand that people could recognize instantly and enjoy seeing across every touchpoint.
- Brand identity review: Studied how memorable retail brands create a consistent visual style.
- Mascot research: Explored how characters help brands feel more friendly and recognizable.
- Visual consistency: Defined colors, shapes, and illustration styles that work together.
- Real-world applications: Planned a system that could scale across packaging, stores, campaigns, and digital media.

Illustration & Character Design
The heart of the project was creating a mascot system people could instantly recognize. Instead of generic retail graphics, ZuZu Mart received a cast of original characters that brought personality to the brand and made every campaign feel more engaging.
Each illustration was built using a consistent visual style, making it easy to use the same assets across packaging, store branding, social media, merchandise, and future marketing without losing the brand's identity.

Brand Identity & Art Direction
We turned the illustration system into a complete brand identity that works across every touchpoint. From social media and packaging to store branding and large outdoor campaigns, every asset was designed to feel consistent, recognizable, and easy to scale.
The same visual style carries through every application, helping ZuZu Mart look playful no matter where customers see it. This gives the brand a flexible creative system that can grow with new products, campaigns, and future marketing without losing its personality.

A brand built to grow across every touchpoint
The final result was more than a mascot collection. ZuZu Mart received a complete brand system that could be used across marketing, packaging, retail spaces, and future campaigns while keeping the same friendly personality and visual style.
- 8 original mascot characters designed with unique personalities, expressions, and turnaround views.
- 40+ custom illustrations created for campaigns, social media, packaging, and in-store branding.
- 25+ real-world brand applications developed across posters, billboards, merchandise, retail displays, and digital assets.
