THE PROBLEM
Indian small business owners spend 40% of their time on compliance and paperwork — GST filing, Udyam registration, invoice generation, tax calculations. Most couldn't afford a CA or compliance team. The process was complex, error-prone, and time-consuming.
UX RESEARCH & STRATEGY
Interviewed 50 small business owners across manufacturing, retail, and service sectors. Common pain: government portals are confusing, language is a barrier, and mistakes lead to penalties. Designed a chat-first interface where users describe what they need in plain Hindi/English.
DECISION LOG
OpenAI API for natural language understanding of business queries. Government API integration (GST, Udyam) for automated form filling. PostgreSQL for structured business data. The conversational AI approach was chosen over traditional forms — 4x higher completion rates in testing.
ARCHITECTURE
React frontend with chat-based interface. Node.js backend orchestrating AI agent and government API calls. PostgreSQL for user profiles, business data, and compliance records. OpenAI API for intent understanding and response generation. Firebase for authentication.
UI EXECUTION
Chat interface as primary interaction mode. User types 'I need GST registration' → AI asks for business name, PAN, address → auto-fills government forms → submits. Progress tracker showing compliance status. Document upload via camera for PAN/Aadhaar verification.
BUSINESS IMPACT
Reduced GST registration time from 7 days to under 2 hours. The conversational approach was particularly effective for non-English-speaking business owners who struggled with traditional form-based portals. Demonstrated the viability of AI-first compliance solutions.
