THE PROBLEM
People seeking astrological consultations had to visit astrologers in person or book through unorganized WhatsApp groups. No platform offered instant live chat/call consultations with verified astrologers across India.
UX RESEARCH & STRATEGY
Surveyed 150+ astrology consultation users. Key findings: users want instant access (not scheduled bookings), multiple price points, astrologer profiles with ratings, and privacy in consultations. Designed a marketplace model similar to ride-hailing — available astrologers appear in real-time.
DECISION LOG
React Native for cross-platform development (iOS + Android from single codebase). MSG91 for OTP-based phone verification (cost-effective for Indian market). MVVM architecture for clean separation of concerns. Firebase for real-time chat and user authentication.
ARCHITECTURE
React Native frontend with MVVM pattern. Firebase backend for authentication, real-time chat database, and push notifications. MSG91 SMS gateway for OTP verification. Kotlin native modules for payment gateway integration. Node.js microservice for astrologer availability matching.
UI EXECUTION
Designed a Tinder-style card interface for browsing astrologers — swipe through profiles with photo, specialization, rating, and per-minute rate. One-tap connect for chat (free preview) or voice call (paid). Wallet system for prepaid consultation minutes.
BUSINESS IMPACT
Onboarded 200+ verified astrologers across India. The instant-connect model achieved 3x higher consultation bookings compared to scheduled-appointment competitors. User retention was driven by astrologer rating quality and consultation history access.
