THE PROBLEM
Gym owners in India managed memberships on paper or basic Excel sheets. No digital solution handled recurring payments, attendance tracking, workout plan assignment, and revenue analytics in a single platform.
UX RESEARCH & STRATEGY
Spent time in 8 gyms across 3 cities observing front-desk workflows. Key findings: gym staff are non-technical, need 2-tap workflows, and 90% of member interactions happen at check-in. Designed for speed and simplicity.
DECISION LOG
Flutter vs React Native for cross-platform. Flutter's consistent rendering and faster development cycle won. Laravel backend for its robust authentication, queue management for payment processing, and Eloquent ORM for complex reporting queries.
ARCHITECTURE
Multi-tenant Laravel backend with gym-specific databases, Flutter mobile app for staff and members, MySQL for transactional data, Firebase for push notifications on payment reminders and class schedules, REST API bridge.
UI EXECUTION
Designed role-specific interfaces: Gym Owner dashboard (revenue, attendance, retention metrics), Staff dashboard (check-in, member lookup, payment collection), Member app (workout plans, class booking, payment history). Dark theme for gym environments.
BUSINESS IMPACT
Adopted by multiple gyms across India. Reduced check-in time from 2 minutes to 5 seconds via QR code scanning. Automated payment reminders reduced default rate by 35%. Owner dashboard became a key selling point at demos.
