THE PROBLEM
Small and mid-size restaurants used fragmented tools — one for billing, another for inventory, and manual KOT slips. Orders were lost, billing was slow, and inventory tracking was non-existent leading to stockouts.
UX RESEARCH & STRATEGY
Observed restaurant operations during peak hours (lunch and dinner rush). Waiters handle 15-20 tables simultaneously, need instant order entry with minimal taps. Kitchen staff need clear, printer-friendly KOTs. Managers need real-time sales data.
DECISION LOG
Hybrid architecture: Flutter for the frontend (table management, order taking) with Kotlin for thermal printer integration. Laravel backend with MySQL for transactional integrity. Chose POS-optimized UI over general-purpose design.
ARCHITECTURE
Modular Laravel monolith with services for billing, inventory, KOT, and reporting. Flutter app for waiters and managers. Kotlin bridge for Bluetooth/network thermal printers. MySQL ensures ACID compliance for financial transactions.
UI EXECUTION
Grid-based table layout with color coding (occupied, reserved, billing). Quick-order panel with categorized menu items. One-tap KOT send to kitchen. Split bill, discounts, and tax calculation built into the billing flow.
BUSINESS IMPACT
