THE PROBLEM
Business professionals spend thousands on printed visiting cards that get lost, outdated, or thrown away. During COVID-19, contactless networking became critical. Existing digital card solutions were expensive, complex, or lacked analytics.
UX RESEARCH & STRATEGY
Surveyed 200+ professionals about networking habits. 85% had stacks of unused business cards. Key needs: instant sharing via QR or NFC tap, auto-save to phone contacts, real-time analytics on card views, and easy profile updates without reprinting.
DECISION LOG
QR code + NFC tag dual approach for maximum device compatibility. MongoDB for flexible profile schemas (different professions need different fields). React SPA for the card builder dashboard. PWA support for offline card viewing.
ARCHITECTURE
React frontend for the digital card builder and analytics dashboard. Node.js backend with MongoDB for user profiles and card templates. AWS S3 for profile image hosting. NFC tag programming via Web NFC API. QR generation with dynamic short URLs.
UI EXECUTION
Card builder with drag-and-drop sections: name, title, company, phone, email, website, social links. Live preview showing exactly how the card will look when shared. Analytics dashboard tracking card views by location, device, and time. Template gallery with industry-specific designs.
BUSINESS IMPACT
Positioned as an eco-friendly, cost-effective alternative to printed cards. The QR/NFC dual-mode sharing worked seamlessly across iOS and Android. Analytics feature became a key differentiator — users could track networking effectiveness with real engagement data.
